From the President

Dear PPGGNY Members and Friends,

“It takes a noble man to plant a seed for a tree that
will one day give share to people he may never meet.”

The above quote -- commonly cited in planned giving -- is one that has
consistently resonated with me as a planned giving specialist these past
20 years. I am proud to say that we truly do help donors provide for
future generations.

The holiday season is upon us! Although we are busy with end-of-the-year gifts and people
urgently finalizing wills before the end of December, it is important for each of us to pause
and ponder our role and our goals. We are juggling many balls in the air. And, the
uncertainty of tax law changes does not make things any easier. Hopefully our upcoming
sessions – which will reference how new tax laws may impact charitable giving – will
provide some calming assistance during this crazy time.

Our next sessions on 12/13/2017 will feature the revered Jonathan Tidd on Cases and
Problems and Ethical Questions in Gift Planning, which will challenge even the most
experienced professionals. During lunch, Jon’s Annual Gift Planning Quiz will also test your
knowledge of charitable gift issues. All sessions qualify for CLE, CPR and CFRE credits.

Save the date of 1/17/2017 for three exciting programs. Andrew Fussner, Esq. will be
talking about Top Ten Estate Settlement Problems. Our own Ron Brown, author of the new
book, A History of Charitable Gift Planning, will be speaking on New York’s Leading Role in
the History of Gift Planning. And our luncheon speaker will be Edward Mooney, Senior
Wealth Strategist with BNY Mellon, who will summarize all we need to know about the
changing tax code. Don’t miss it!

Please note that the next two sessions, on 12/13/2017 and 1/17/2018, will be held at the
Bernstein offices located at 1345 Avenue of the Americas, 41st Floor. We are grateful to our
friends at Bernstein for hosting us!

We wish you a most wonderful holiday season and a happy and healthy new year!
