Details are as follows - Guests must wear proper attire in the Club’s public rooms at all times. This means jackets for men and attire of similar formality for women. Denim is not acceptable. Ties are no longer required and collared shirts or turtlenecks with a tailored jacket are acceptable.

We invite you to share in the excitement of our biennial awards celebration! This year, we will be honoring two very special PPGGNY members - Dianne Armstrong, CFRE and Margaret M. Holman. The luncheon will be held at Manhattan's exclusive Cosmopolitan Club on Wednesday, October 18th at noon. Along with honoring the hard work of Dianne and Margaret, the Awards Luncheon is also a time for us to enjoy the company of our fellow fundraisers and to gain new gift planning insights. This year we are pleased to be able to share that Robert F. Sharpe, Jr., a leader in planned giving, noted author, and speaker will be sharing his expertise as our luncheon presenter.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Margaret M. Holman

Margaret M. Holman is president of Holman Consulting, a full-service fund-raising consulting firm she founded in New York City in 1991.   Ms. Holman served as Senior Vice President for Development and Communications at America's first and largest humane society, The ASPCA.  She has also held senior fundraising management positions at a variety of arts, health and educational institutions throughout the country.  

Ms. Holman has published numerous articles on non-profit management, lectures widely, and has served as faculty for several institutes, conferences and seminars, including the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the International Conference for Fundraising Managers in Birmingham, UK, the National Committee on Planned Giving conferences, and the European Association for Planned Giving seminars.   

She is an emerita president of the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York, was president of Women in Development in New York, and served on the Greater New York Chapter of AFP Board.  She chaired America’s largest one-day conference on philanthropy, Fund Raising Day in New York in 1999 and 2000.  Ms. Holman is a member of the Board of Directors and a Trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation, is a board member of the Epic Theater Ensemble and was an advisor to the European Association of Planned Giving.  She is a member of the adjunct faculty at the New York University George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising and is the co-author of “The Complete Guide to Careers in Fund Raising” (Kendall/Hunt Publishers); “Major Gift Fundraising” (Directory of Social Change Publishers, London, England); and is a contributing author of “Nonprofit Consulting Playbook”, Charity Channel.

Ms. Holman graduated from the University of Nebraksa-Lincoln with a B.A. from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.


Cloughy Distinguished Service Award: Dianne Armstrong, CFRE

Dianne is national director of gift planning at Planned Parenthood Federation of America.  Her career has included a variety of roles in development at the Rutgers University Foundation (1981-1986), Long Island University (1986-1990), Cornell Medical College (1990-1996), Women in Need (1996-1999), and Planned Parenthood (1999-present).  She earned an M.S. in Nonprofit Management from the New School and has retained the CFRE credential since 1989.

In addition to presenting at conferences and seminars, Dianne’s volunteer service includes roles with Women In Development-NY (former committee member, board member, and officer), the Greater NY Chapter of AFP (former board member and longstanding audit committee member), Fundraising Day in New York (former treasurer), PPGGNY (former committee and board member), and the American Council on Gift Annuities (current officer).  
At Planned Parenthood, Dianne and her team have built a national planned giving program that includes a legacy society of some 2,500 members, a comprehensive life income gift program, and services for the network of Planned Parenthood affiliates. They are currently completing the organization’s first  Bequest Challenge Campaign that has generated more than $300,000,000 in documented bequests, with $20 million in current challenge grant funds from lead donors.

Accelerating Bequests – How to Effectively “Mine” Your Bequest Goldmine

Many organizations already have significant numbers of persons who have indicated they have included a gift as part of their estate plans.  Is that the final chapter in a well stewarded donor relationship?  Not necessarily.  This session will explore a variety of methods to help donors “accelerate” bequests in ways that produce more predictable current and future income while also helping donors meet personal financial goals.

This session is eligible for CPE and CFRE credit.

 

Robert Sharpe is a nationally recognized pioneer, leader, and authority in the field of philanthropy. As Chairman of the Sharpe Group, he consults with educational, health, social service, and religious organizations and institutions in implementing and improving their major, planned gift, and endowment development efforts.

Robert is chairman of the philanthropy editorial board of Trusts & Estates magazine and co-author of the PPP Model Standards of Gift Valuation. He has served on the board of Giving USA and has served on strategic task forces for the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP).  He has chaired the annual Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) conference on Structuring Major Gifts since 2004. He currently serves on the Congressional legislative advisory council for the Alliance for Charitable Reform.
